This sample shows the QB/WR/TE matchup chart for the Arizona Cardinals.

The charts are slightly different from last year's charts in that they contain some metric information from Scientific Football 2006. The metrics are:

YPA - Yards Per Attempt
Success %, which is the percentage that a player had a successful play (i.e. includes receptions/completions and pass interference penalties)
SYPA, which is Success percentage times Yards Per Attempt - a good overall barometer for player efficiency
BADSYPA, which is a quarterback only rating that modifies SYPA by the bad decision metric

I'll go into each of these metrics in greater detail in both the draft guide and in SF 2006. I included them in the charts because I wanted everyone to see the metric guidelines I use for grading players. These metrics are only guidelines and are not hard and fast ratings. For example, Terrell Owens rated quite poorly in the SYPA metric last year but I still gave him a fantasy grade of A.

The rest of the chart shows the players' lineup matchup. Lineup matchup means the defensive player who is due to line up against the offensive player. For instance, the split end will typically line up against the right cornerback and the flanker against the left cornerback. I have also graded each defensive back according to the metrics and have placed their grade in the charts as well.

The starters at each position could also be subject to change during the preseason. As those changes become known, I will be revising the charts and making them available as a download for Saturday Night Notes subscribers.
