Vinny: |
I’m in a 12 team full point ppr snake draft. All TDs worth six points. I have the fifth pick. I’ve been working mock drafts and inevitably with the second pick (20th overall) one of the top two TEs are available. My question is if all the top rbs are gone by the 20 th pick is the move to take either Kelce or Kittle or do I take the top WR available. Does taking a TE at number 2 damage the team roster. ? The same question can be asked for the 29 th pick if mahomes and or Jackson is the best player available in my third round. |
|
It seems to me the safer play is to take rbs and wrs with the first three picks even if Kelce Jackson or Mahomes is available |

Andy: |
KC, |
|
We talked Monday about swapping my 6th WR pick (Scotty Miller) with Bryan Edwards, you suggested I sit tight. Based on Tyrell Williams landing on season ending IR, does that change you opinion/answer?? |

Mikey: |
KC, with A.Kamara needing an epidural shot on his back. Should that give me some pause on drafting him with the 4th overall pick. |
|
Am I just better off with D.Henry or D.Cook instead? If so, who do u like best here? It’s a PPR league |
|
KC Joyner: |
Good afternoon! Let’s talk some fantasy football! |
|
KC Joyner: |
Mikey, I’m not particularly concerned about Kamara’s physical issues and will still be ranking him in the top five at RB. Cook is the upside play and Henry is the percentage play. |
|
Michael D: |
In my 11-team (yep) non-PPR league where we start only two WRs (with two RBs and a Flex), if my draft goes as I expect (10 years of history with these guys) my roster will look like this through first five rounds: |
|
1. McCaffrey 2. Conner or Carson 3. Andrews or Kittle 4. Ronald Jones, Mostert or Akers 5. QB (I hate to take a QB so early, but if I wait until 6/7 turn I won’t get a Top 10 QB) |
|
So I’m looking at taking a minimum of three WRs in Rounds 6-9 and maybe four if there’s not an RB value at 8/9 turn. |
|
Is this a viable strategy assuming I can get four WRs with green-rated upside? Or should I pass on Jones/Mostert/Akers and take a better WR in that spot? |
|
Mikey: |
Do u think TE E.Ebron could put up solid #s playing with Big Ben and that Steelers offense? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Andy, the Williams to IR issue did move Edwards up over Miller in the latest charts. |
|
Matt: |
Seems like Kamara is going to continue reporting but would a trade do anything but hurt is value? I |
|
KC Joyner: |
It actually moved Edwards higher and added value to Ruggs. Hunter Renfrow’s value increased as well, as it was starting to look like he might be the odd man out, but his skill set is now complementary to the rest. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Unless Kamara decides he wants to call the Saints bluff (and I think he realizes that he is more valuable in that offense than he would be in almost any other offense in the NFL), he and the Saints will get this worked out. I’m operating under the premise that he will be in New Orleans all season. |
|
Mikey: |
If one of Kittle Or Kelce Are available in the 2nd rd and a top tier WR like Hopkins/J.Jones or even Godwin are still on the board. What will you do? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Mikey, as much as the news about Ben’s elbow feeling better helps matters, the Steelers are still very likely to lean more heavily on the ground game this year. That 2018 version of this offense isn’t going to return. With that being the case, Ebron has TE1 potential but he does have something of a ceiling. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Vinny, I penned a Draft Kit article about the relative talent levels at each fantasy football position (https://www.thefootballscientist.com/blogs/paydirt/2020-draft-kit-post-talent-availability-ratings). The summary version of that is TE value is very thin this season and therefore it is worth it to prioritize TE picks. That goes double versus WRs, as the depth at that position is off the charts. |
|
Mikey: |
If I draft D.Henry with my 4th overall pick. Over Cook and Kamara. Do u feel that this is a huge gamble on my part? Or do u feel Henry will have just as big a year as he did last season? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Mikey, I’d take Kelce or Kittle over top flight WRs for the aforementioned talent depth disparity between WRs and TEs. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Mikey, I can’t get Derrick Henry’s 2018 campaign out of my mind, as he was abysmal at the beginning of that season. It shows that if he does falter, his floor is extremely low. Cook has the injury concern, but if Cook does stay healthy his floor should be much higher than Henry’s. As such, I’d take Cook over Henry in most cases. |
|
Mikey: |
Who do u like better out of these guys if they are all available? Rank 1-4 please! Ertz/K.Allen /Lockett or Ridley? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Michael D, assuming that league is like most others in prioritizing RB value over other positions, I’d stick with an RB over WR at that spot. WR depth is so strong this year that it will be easier to replace WRs than at any other position. |
|
Andy: |
Better backup QB; Bridgewater or Minshew |
|
KC Joyner: |
Andy, I’d go Bridgewater all the way. As noted in the Paydirt post that has the notes from the Ross Tucker show, the Panthers are stocking their roster with WRs. That indicates they are going to be more of a pass-heavy team. Add that to the WR upgrades, having CMC, and Bridgewater’s talent level (he passed all seven Parcells Rules in college) and he’s got sneaky QB1 upside. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Mikey, off the top of my head the ranking would be Ertz, Ridley, Lockett, and Allen. Would take Ertz over them under the assumption that the other top three TEs are off of the board and Ertz is the last blue-rated TE available. |
|
Andy: |
KC, What are your thoughts on the NFL getting in a “full season” ? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Since we have yet to cover Fournette, here’s the quick skinny. I think Jacksonville sent a ton of workload his way last year in an effort to jack up his value. It didn’t change other teams perceptions about Fournette being a limited player with certain strong suits. Add that to the other reports that have been posted regarding Fournette’s standing in the locker room and it would seem to limit how much interest there will be in him. He will eventually sign somewhere and could have RB2 value if a team centered its rush game on him, but my suggestion is to value him as a RB4 unless/until he signs somewhere. |
|
Michael D: |
KC, thanks for confirming what I thought. I’ve spent lots of time modeling this out. |
|
So, since my first WR will be at the 6/7 turn, all of the blue-rated upside WRs will be gone. I’m going to go with your assessment of the value of the green-rated guys and take them in that order. |
|
I see three green-rated upside guys where your positional ranking is 10 or more spots higher than several other analysts – Emmanuel Sanders, Robby Anderson and Justin Jetferson. My guess is that all three of them may fall to me. Is your assessment higher than most mainly because of the matchup points? Or something esle? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Andy, I think there will be situations that could cause cancellations of games, much as MLB had. I would surmise that the NFL has backup plans to get those games in, but that the league could also say that losing some games here and there would not be enough to add a Week 18 (or 19 or 20) and push the playoffs out. They will look at anything with 200+ games as a complete season and could even do so with fewer games played. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Michael D, it would be matchup points causing the disparity. Truth be told, I’ve moved the value of matchup points back a lot over the past 3-4 years, but the compressed nature of the player values at that level means it doesn’t take much in the way of matchup points impact to move players up the charts by 5-10 spots. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Speaking of undervalued fantasy QBs, don’t forget about Tyrod Taylor. He was a mid-tier QB2 in Buffalo and has that same type of potential with the Chargers. It’s likely he is the starter for the entire season and thus he has tremendous spot-start value. |
|
KC Joyner: |
Quick housekeeping note. I will likely be updating the Excel charts again before this weekend since so many leagues will be doing last minute drafts. One personnel upgrade will be Rams WR Van Jefferson, as The Athletic is reporting that Jefferson will be the Rams No. 3 WR over Josh Reynolds. Expect Jefferson to be a solid WR6 with some upside potential given what a No. 3 WR can do in the Rams offense. |
|
Michael D: |
KC, I have to leave early today and want to thank you for doing the chats. |
|
Did you say in a previous chat that you will be doing a waiver-related chat during the season? If so, what day of the week? |
|
KC Joyner: |
Michael D, there will be a waiver-wire chat every Tuesday this season. Am thinking it will be at 3 PM. |
|
KC Joyner: |
And so it goes for this week’s chat! The third of this week’s three chats will take place at 2 PM on Friday. Thanks again for all of the great questions and I hope to see you in the Friday chat! |
